My HBCU | PLC x Pepsi is a four-week virtual program where students create unique graphic and logo designs for the first PLC capsule collection of apparel merchandise based on the principles of Pride, Legacy, and Culture.
After a public vote, my design was selected out of 12 participants by the public to be manufactured and sold, and was unveiled at the Black Footwear Forum in partnership with Big Sean.
This collection has been featured in AfroTech, The Michigan Chronicle, The Source, ClutchPoints, and featured on Pepsi's official Instagram page.
The collection will be available for purchase publicly in the later half of November 2024 via the PLC website.
The Newfound Creative is a concept I created, which is someone who may not have always known of their creative abilities until they are abled to be nurtured in an environment such PLC.
BOLD AND GESTURAL.
I wanted to be able to combine bold elements and convey them in a way that is gestural and artistic.
PREPPY x RETRO
Initially, I had 2 graphic design concepts in mind – preppy, school-esque, and retro – more fun and colorful.
PREPPY x RETRO
Initial graphic sketches of the preppy concept (bottom half) and retro concept (top half) using Adobe illustrator.
I decided to go with the preppy graphic concept. In doing so, I knew that I wanted to modernize the old Pensole Academy logo, and find a way to incorporate the idea of flames/lights – as an ode to Blacklights and being trailblazers. 1928 and 2024 represent Lewis College of Business and PLC Detroit, violets are in honor of Dr. Violet T. Lewis.
Thinking back to the design language of bold and playful, I wanted to find a way to make the “LEADERS OF THE FUTURE” graphic more dynamic – and I found that through adding preppy-styled letters. “If you are prepared, there will be a place for you” is a quote by Dr. Violet T. Lewis.
